Solidarity with Bushfire Victims

Br Tony D’Arbon and Sr Helen Peters with a Year 7 Trinity Catholic College student.Trinity Catholic College with campuses in Auburn and Regents Park Sydney have excelled themselves in their solidarity! This Marist School with students from many ethnic groups conducted a fundraising appeal throughout the Lent and Easter Season amongst the staff and students donating $10,000 towards the Marist Bushfire Assistance Fund.

Mr Paul Fensom, Headmaster, proudly spoke at a recent school assembly of how the school community raised the funds selling food during recess and lunchtimes drawing on its students diverse cultural culinary traditions. Not only was it a fundraising project but also a way of sharing their cultures with each other. Br Tony D’Arbon and Sr Helen Peters having had a long association with Marist Solidarity Projects overseas acknowledged the receipt of funds on behalf of the Solidarity Team for Melbourne. This College early in the 2009 academic year was confronted by armed intruders that severely disrupted the life of this school community. It has recovered well!In this year it has formed a Social Justice group keeping alive the sense of solidarity with those not as fortunate as themselves. We thank them for their efforts in assisting the Bushfire Victims of Marist Schools Victoria.
