New Building at ICFP, Timor Leste

The Teachers’ College at Baucau (ICFP) has commenced a new four storey classroom buiding. The first stage has been the rmoval of a very large portion of rock which jutted up in the middle of the site and then the excavation of the site to a depth of about 15 feet to form the foundations. The concrete foundations have been laid and much of the rock replaced around them. The rest of the rock seems to be distributed widely around Baucau. The builders are currently working on drilling for a water supply and installing the septic system.

Work on the building is held up as we wait the arrival of the steel from Indonesia and so Br Fons has part of the building crew renovating the Brothers’ house. Most of the crew are Indonesian and most of the work is done by hand. It is fascinating to watch them work from scratch and with few power tools and yet produce a high quality finish.

The 2011 class graduated recently, and the 2012 classes are in full swing. There are seven candidates starting or finishing their Masters degree.
